Ep. 284 – The Matrix (1999)

Episode 284: The Crew’s deciding which pill to take while watching the Wachowski Sibling’s The Matrix. This film was huge in 1999. It was a surprising box-office smash that went on to influence so much of pop culture. The costumes, the sunglasses, the music, and bullet time were everywhere. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 283 – Last Night in Soho (2021)

Episode 283: The Crew’s making dresses from newspaper while watching Edgar Wright’s Last Night in Soho. This film has a more serious tone than Wright’s other work. There’s some funny moments as it starts with a magical rom-com feel before slowly turning up the tension and becoming a British giallo. The cinematography and music work together so well. And go see it in theaters, cause this is shaping up to be the lowest grossing Wright film – the film will likely end its run with under $25 million worldwide. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 282 – Wrath of Man (2021)

Episode 282: The Crew’s shaving their heads and working on their British accents while watching Guy Ritchie’s Wrath of Man. This is Ritchie’s most reserved movie, but also his most tonally dark film. Sure, plenty of one-liners and thrilling set pieces, but this vengeance fueled rampage surprises you with a time jumping narrative that reveals characters in a more psychopathic light. And this maybe the best soundtrack of the year. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 281 – Antlers (2021)

Episode 281: The Crew’s getting horny while watching Scott Cooper’s Antlers. The film is produced by Guillermo del Toro, but make no mistake, this is a Scott Cooper film. And he does an impressive job on his first horror film. The creature effects are creepy, and more importantly, practical. And watch out for cinema’s most creative jump scare since The Exorcist III. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 280 – Dune: Part One

Episode 280: The Crew’s doing lines of Spice while watching Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. It’s Lawrence of Arabia in Space, and it’s just as magical as the David Lean masterpiece. The world building is awe-inspiring and feels fresh. Which is even more impressive considering how often Frank Herbert’s novel has been cannibalized by sci-fi cinema. Everyone involved made something truly special that needs to be seen on the big screen. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 279 – Halloween Kills

Episode 279: The Crew’s screaming “Evil dies tonight” while watching David Gordon Green’s, Halloween Kills. After 2018’s Halloween was a box-office smash and the fans embraced it; expectations were high for this sequel. And if all you want is Michael Myers killing everyone in Haddonfield, this may be your favorite installment. But the film’s thematic messaging is muddled, Laurie Strode has nothing to do, and the character’s motivations are nonexistent. Even John Carpenter’s score is a tad disappointing. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 278 – No Time to Die

no_time_to_die_poster

Episode 278: Spoiler Warning!!! The Crew’s having martinis (shaken, not stirred) while watching Cary Joji Fukunaga’s No Time to Die. This is Daniel Craig’s last Bond film, after 5 movies and a 15 year tenure as the world famous character. Fukunaga is the first American director of the series, and he brings the excitement and emotion. Hans Zimmer score is perfect, the sets are perfect, and the cinematography may be better than Skyfall. If you’re a Bond fan, you have to see this movie as soon as possible. The biggest spoiler: Don’t drive Range Rovers. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 277 – Venom: Let There Be Carnage

Episode 277: Spoiler Warning!!! The Crew’s cheering on their favorite Lethal Protector while watching Andy Serkis’ Venom: Let There Be Carnage. After the box-office success of the first film, a sequel was quickly green lit. Although, the director, cinematographer, and composer didn’t return for this follow up. Woody Harrelson and Naomie Harris are added to the cast and they’re game to play in this silly universe. The VFX, cinematography, and production design are top notch, but the music isn’t nearly as good. Make sure to stay for the end credit stinger. The Crew discusses…

Ep. 276 – Venom

Venom_poster

Episode 276: The Crew’s eating chocolate and human brains while watching Ruben Fleischer’s Venom. After the poor reaction to Spider-Man 3, Venom gets to shine in his own movie. Although the film didn’t win any Oscars, comic fans seemed to embrace it regardless of Spider-Man’s involvement. The cast, led by a super committed Tom Hardy, are better than the material deserves. And Ludwig Göransson’s music is perfect! Buy this soundtrack.

Ep. 275 – Swan Song (2021)

SwanSong2021_Poster

Episode 275: The Crew’s shoplifting everything in sight while watching Todd Stephens’ Swan Song. Udo Kier delivers a wonderful performance, maybe the best performance of the year, as an aging gay man recapturing his former self. The story is heartbreaking with some funny moments, and the costumes and locations work well. This film could be a perfect 10, if it wasn’t for the horrible amateurish cinematography. The Crew discusses…
