The film had production problems, but director Richard Donner and crew made the film a box office hit, starting a franchise and genre that thrive today. The film has two huge stars (Marlon Brando and Gene Hackman), but the standouts are Christopher Reeves and Margot Kidder, still many comic fans’ favorite Superman and Lois Lane.
